Laying the foundation Highlights

1940 - 1968

Emigrating from India, Premjibhai Jetha laid the foundation. His sons, Keshubhai (KP Senior) and Kanjibhai (KP Junior) built trading and hardware experience, renamed a hardware shop to Venus Metal & Steel Corporation and acquired Kavee Quarries, the origin of Nyumba Group.

1940s

Premjibhai Jetha Bhudia emigrated from India to Kenya, where he founded Premji Jetha & Co., marking the beginning of the Group’s entrepreneurial legacy.

1950s

Keshubhai (KP Senior) and Kanjibhai (KP Junior) gained hands-on experience in trading and construction through Premji Jetha & Co. and Indo African Hardware

1958

The family acquired a local hardware store and renamed it Venus Metal & Steel Corporation, the seed that would evolve into the modern Nyumba Group.

Forging the Nyumba Name

1968 – 1980

Corrugated Sheets Limited was incorporated, the Nyumba brand trademarked, and CSL launched its sheet-galvanizing and wire divisions, marking the Group’s industrial move.

1974: CSL began sheet galvanizing 1975: CSL began wire product division.

Growth Through Innovation

1981 – 2000

With Standard Rolling Mills founded alongside KGI and new tube-mill and reinforced-steel divisions at CSL, the group diversified further — even as Meghbai Premji Bhudia passed, the family legacy continued to expand.

1984

Standard Rolling Mills Limited (SRM) was founded with mill 1 with partners KGI.

1988

Began tube mill and reinforced steel division at CSL.

Building on Strength

2001 - 2010

CSL kicked o its first continuous galvanizing line and Nyumba Colourcot paint line; Mombasa Cement Ltd was founded, began cement production at Athi River; SRM launched its second mill.

Early 2000s

2001: Establishment of first continuous galvanizing line at CSL 2002: Establishment of first Nyumba ColourCot paint coating line at CSL

2003

The Group ventured into cement manufacturing by establishing Mombasa Cement Ltd (MCL).

2005

Establishment of mill 2 at SRM

2009

Started cement production at MCL Athi River with line 1 (KP Gold 32.5 and KP Diamond 42.5)

Cementing Leadership

2011 – 2014

The Group scaled production at MCL (Vipingo & Athi River), CSL added second galvanizing and colourcot lines, KP Silver 32.5 was launched, and both Premjibhai Jetha Bhudia and KP Senior passed.

2011

MCL Vipingo began clinker production (Line 1), securing local raw material supply.

2012

CSL doubled capacity with its second galvanizing and second Nyumba Colourcot paint coating line, improving speed and finish quality. MCL launched KP Silver 32.5, an affordable option tailored for mass markets.

2013–2014

2013: MCL Athi River Line 2 was expanded 2014: Plug & Grind cement technology (first in world containerised ball mill) was launched at MCL Vipingo with line 1 with KP silver

Next-Gen Manufacturing

2015 – 2020

Nyumba TMT rebar mill launched (and later upgraded to TMX quality), CSL introduced Nyumba Colourcot tile profiles, and SRM’s solar plant came online — reinforcing manufacturing muscle and sustainability.

2016

CSL unveiled the Nyumba TMT rebar mill, producing high-strength steel bars for modern construction. The plant was later upgraded in 2020 to TMT quality, enhancing tensile strength and safety standards

2017

Solar plant at SRM began generating power, a first in the Group’s renewable energy journey. Innovation at CSL with Nyumba Colourcot tile profiles, ordering architects and builders greater aesthetic choice. Expanded cement production at MCL Vipingo with line 2 with Ready 2 Grind (First in world mini modular vertical roller mill)

2019

Solar plant at SRM started generating power

Building for Generations

2021 – Present

Marking 50 years of CSL and the re-brand to Nyumba Group, the company launched Nyumba Agri Products, expanded cement grades (KP Super Gold & KP Platinum), invested in solar power, scrap melting and lime plants, and formed the Nyumba Foundation.

MCL launched high strength KP Super Gold 42.5 and KP Platinum 52.5 high-strength cement for heavy construction.

2022

The Group celebrated 50 years of CSL and completed the Nyumba Group rebrand, signalling unity across businesses.

2023

Nyumba Foundation was launched

2024

Expanded cement production at MCL Athi River with line 3. Nyumba Agri Products Ltd (NAPL) is launched

2025

Started 10MW solar plant at MCL Vipingo and NAPL Galana First pivots installed at NAPL Galana Solar plant at NG Mikindani Head office started generating power Established steel meltshop at CSL Kokotoni Established Lime plant at MCL Vipingo

2025 & Future

Looking ahead, Nyumba Group plans to implement a waste-heat recovery plant to recycle energy from cement operations. The Group aims to diversify its power mix and expand solar capacity across all sites, reinforcing its carbon-neutral ambitions. Future product innovation will see new cement grades and advanced steel variants introduced for modern infrastructure demands. Plans also include scaling agri-business through NAPL to strengthen food-energy integration. The next chapter continues Nyumba’s legacy of building resilient industries for generations.
